Mission Statement
THE FRIENDS OF BROOKE PARK emerged out of a public meeting, organised by the BBC
Action Network (June 2006), to discuss concerns about the current state and
usage of Brooke Park and to consider community-driven actions that might be
taken to revitalise this important urban greenspace and public amenity. Friends
of Brooke Park is an informal network of local residents, community groups and
others who care about the future of the park. New members are always extremely
welcome.
The aims of THE FRIENDS OF BROOKE PARK are to:
- Contribute to the revitalisation of Brooke Park as a safe, well-maintained
greenspace, public amenity, and venue for inclusive leisure and cultural
activities.
- Work in partnership with Derry City Council representatives and officials,
local businesses and other relevant organisations and agencies to formulate and
implement constructive strategies to limit the misuse of Brooke Park and
encourage positive uses and enjoyment of the park by all the people of the city
and visitors throughout the year.
- Raise awareness among the wider community of the natural, cultural and
historic heritage embodied in Brooke Park.
- Involve young people in a community-driven partnership to reclaim and revitalise Brooke Park for their benefit and the benefit of surrounding
neighbourhoods.
