Joseph Dornan and granddaughter Tegan Dornan from Creggan

Mr Dornan said: "Years ago the library used to be up here and a lot of families would have used the park but not now. It is a great park and it would be good to see it being used again as it was years ago. It's a great venue for events like this as long as we get the weather."

Conal McFeely from the Bogside

"I think what is happening here today is brilliant and the park should be used more often for events like this. I used to live round the corner and I remember playing here growing up. It would be good to see the fountain back in the park now.

"It would be great to see it used for more events like this during the summer for family days. You could have a music festival every summer and let local bands play."

Mary Kelly from Galliagh pictured with her grand-daughter.

"Today has been a great day. The last time I saw the park it was governed by hoods. I come from Francis Street and as a youngster we would have played up here. It was always a safe place to go but the last time I was up here there were gangs drinking bottles and I didn't feel like passing them. I would like to see the park back as a park for recreation."

Tina McLaughlin from the city centre

"I think today has been a great success, nice weather and it was refreshing to see people are not drinking. I think it could benefit from a burger van. I've been running about like Yogi Bear looking at picnics and seeing what they had to offer.

"It was great to see all the wains enjoying themselves. It would be good to have somebody in the park now who could take a wee scut round and make sure its OK but that would be no good if it was just one person on their own, they would have to go around in twos and threes."

Catherin Taylor and daughter Megan from Creggan

"Today was brilliant. It's just a pity they didn't do one in July and one in August. More of the same is what people want. It would be great to see a bandstand here permanently and maybe two or three wardens walking about the place.

"People do feel very intimidated by people drinking in the park and families would feel a lot safer. I remember years ago there was always a park keeper with a whistle and if you so much as stepped on a blade of grass you heard that whistle."

Carmel Doherty from Rosemount added: "They want to do something with the children's park up there. There's barely a swing in it. It should be more like Bull Park. After all there is lots of space for it so sort out that park because at the minute it is a disgrace."

Mark Gallagher from Rosemount and Mark Harkin with his son Ethan from Newtoncunningham

Mr Gallagher said: "This is good enough for the first time. The weather has made all the difference and it is good to use this bit of public space I am glad somebody thought about using it after all these years. They should have separated it though into a day for children and a day for adults to give them a break as well. The bands could play for the adults as the children are more interested in other things."

Mr Harkin added: "This has been brilliant. Great for the wains I use the leisure centre in Brooke Park all the time and It would be great to see a swimming pool here which could be done given the size of the grounds. I think the grounds are wasted at the moment."

Ardani family, originally from Iran but now living in Derry

Victor Ardani said, "This is a great day for me but there could be more sports and more games for adults as well as the children. The children are really enjoying it here today."
