Art in Brooke Park
Press Release - April 24, 2007
“Art in Brooke Park” is part of a community initiative to reclaim Brooke Park as a lively public amenity, safe green space, and cultural gathering place.
It is being organised by Friends of Brooke Park in partnership with the
University of Ulster Cultural Development programme. ‘Friends of Brooke Park’ includes Gas Yard Féile, Rosemount Youth Club, SEEDS, Rosemount Resource Centre, and many individuals who live or work near Brooke Park.
The project will involve about thirty young participants (aged 14-15) from local schools and youth groups. Workshop leaders from the community and the university will facilitate participants to express their own visions of Brooke Park, through
digital photography, waste sculpture, tile art (mosaic) and drama.
The project includes four days of hands-on workshops (starting Tues May 8th) and ends with
an exhibition and celebration of participants’ work in Brooke Park from 2.00-3.30 pm – including an art trail, street performers, a short play and presentation of certificates by Mayor Quigley (Sat May 12th).
Everyone is warmly invited to come along to the public event on Saturday from 2.00-3.30pm and enjoy the art and the park!
